Music Ministry

Colonial’s music ministry is a vital part of our over all ministry.  We have a conservative philosophy of music on purpose.  Our desire is to use Christ-honoring music that clearly brings glory to God (I Cor. 10:31).  We use the hymnal in our Sunday services combined with Scripture choruses for variety.  The Lord has richly blessed our church with many talented musicians.  Our goals for our music program are:
       
#1 – To bring glory to God, for HE (ultimately) is our audience.
#2 – To make sure that our hearts are right before God as we sing.
#3 – To carefully chose songs that are Biblical and Christ-honoring.
#4 – To minister well with a spirit of excellence.

 

We have many opportunities for ministry in music:

Choirs:

Adult Choir:
The adult choir is a major asset in our services.  The adult choir is for people who are 16 years old and older.  We have about 25 voices in our choir, and more are always welcomed.  The choir practices on Sunday evenings and sings twice on Sundays.  The choir also ministers with special Easter and Christmas cantatas each year.

Teen Choir:
The “IMPACT Teen Choir” is for teenagers in the 7th through 12th grades.  The choir practices every Wednesday night after teen club and ministers at various times during the year in our services and in other churches.

Children’s Choir:
The “Sounds Of Joy” children’s choir also practices on Wednesday nights.  This choir is for children in the 1st through 6th grades.  The choir sings lively children’s songs and ministers at various times throughout the year in our Sunday morning services.

 

Instruments:

Orchestra:
Colonial’s orchestra is a great blessing in our Sunday morning services.  Various instruments are used to accompany the piano and organ in our congregational singing.  The orchestra plays a special offertory once a month. 

Offertories:
We use various instruments during each offering that we take up in our services.  We use instruments such as the piano, organ, trumpet, flute, violin, trombone and others. 

Children and Teen Instrumental Specials:
Since we place a strong emphasis on music here, we want to
encourage our young people to learn instruments and serve the Lord
with them.  Thus, we have a child or teenager minister with an
instrument special each Sunday night in our services. 

Hand bell Teams:
Colonial has a beautiful set of English Hand bells.  We have a teen
Hand bell choir and a children’s hand bell choir that practices on
Wednesday nights during the school year.   The teen hand bell choir
ministers throughout the year in our services and in other churches.

Piano Lessons:
One of our church members teaches piano lessons at an affordable cost and numbers of our children take lessons from her.  This helps greatly in preparing future piano players for God’s use.

Vocal Specials:
       
Special Music:
We have at least one vocal special in every service.  We thank the Lord for the vocal talent at Colonial.  We have opportunities for solos, duets, trios, quartets, etc.  The variety of specials is unique and refreshing.

Ensembles:
We have special ensembles that prepare music and sing from time to time.  These ensembles include groups of all men, all ladies, and mixed teens and adults.
